The video was produced by Daft Arts and shot on 35mm film on location and on sound stages in Los Angeles, CA.

The video is directed by Warren Fu.  Warren started his career as a concept designer for Lucas Films and created characters for the 2nd Star Wars Trilogy, including most notably General Grievous.  Since then he’s directed music video for The Strokes, The Killers, Mark Ronson, Depeche Mode and the video for ‘Derezzed’ from Daft Punk’s Tron soundtrack.  Warren also  album artwork and illustrations for Daft Punk’s R.A.M.   For the Instant Crush video, Warren took inspiration from Hans Christian Anderson’s story “The Steadfast Soldier” as well as the 1960’s TV series the Twilight Zone.

Julian Casablancas’ face was sculpted by hand both in fiberglass and wax for the video by Alterian, led by Tony Gardner.     Tony started working for the legendary creature effects designers Rick Baker and Stan Winston and was the lead make-up artist on Michael Jackson’s Thriller video when he was only 17 years old.  Since then Tony has done effects for countless films including Darkman, Seed Chuckie, 28 Days, Three Kings, Human Nature, Adaptation & Hairspray.  Tony created the Daft Punk robots helmets and has collaborate with the band and Daft Arts on many projects including Daft Punk’s Electroma and the Alive 2007 Tour.  Alterian also designed the melting sequence of the wax figures in the video for Instant Crush.
